NetworkNewsBreaks – EVIO, Inc. (EVIO) Posts Fiscal Q2 2018 Financial Results

EVIO, Inc. (OTCQB: EVIO), a leading provider of cannabis testing and scientific research for the regulated cannabis industry, this morning announced financial and operating results for the quarter and six months ended March 31, 2018. Among other highlights, the company reported revenue for the second quarter of $732,311, a decrease of $56,415 or 12.1% from the second quarter last year. Revenue from the six months ending March 31, 2018, however, was $1,679,176, an increase of $177,997 or 11.9% from the same period in 2017. “EVIO’s second quarter focused greatly on broadening the company’s portfolio. With our recent private placement of $5.973 million, we expanded the company’s footprint by acquiring additional labs, namely in California, a market that we have identified as having unparalleled potential,” EVIO CEO William Waldrop stated in the news release. “We expect the state of California to enforce mandated compliance testing by July 1, 2018. With operational facilities in both Humboldt and Berkeley and the goal of further expansion into the state, we feel like EVIO is well-positioned to meet California’s demand for cannabis testing. Another significant milestone was our entrance into the Canadian market and launched EVIO Canada with the acquisition of Keystone Labs ahead of the country’s legalization of adult recreational use this summer.”

Xiaomi seeks to raise up to $6 billion in Hong Kong IPO

Jun 24, 2018

SEOUL, South Korea — Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp. plans to raise up to $6 billion in one of the biggest global stock market debuts in recent years as it tries to become a worldwide hardware-and-services brand alongside Apple, Google and Amazon. The initial public offering in Hong Kong would value the Beijing-based company at as much as $70.3 billion, according to details released Saturday. Xiaomi will raise less than the $10 billion industry observers had expected, which would have valued the company at $100 billion. But it will still be among the biggest tech IPOs since Chinese e-commerce giant...

Online sellers consider how to comply with sales tax ruling

Jun 24, 2018

NEW YORK — While a Supreme Court ruling on sales taxes will create more obligations and expenses for many small online retailers, owners are already thinking about how they'll comply. The decision allows states to require out-of-state businesses to collect sales tax from customers in other states — for example, a retailer in Utah who sells goods to a customer in New York would have to calculate and collect the New York sales tax. The ruling potentially means thousands of small businesses that never collected sales tax except in their home states will be responsible for tax in some 10,000...

Justices adopt digital-age privacy rules to track cellphones

Jun 24, 2018

WASHINGTON — Police generally need a warrant to look at records that reveal where cellphone users have been, the Supreme Court ruled Friday in a big victory for privacy interests in the digital age. The justices' 5-4 decision marks a big change in how police may obtain information that phone companies collect from the ubiquitous cellphone towers that allow people to make and receive calls, and transmit data. The information has become an important tool in criminal investigations. Chief Justice John Roberts, joined by the court's four liberals, said cellphone location information "is detailed, encyclopedic and effortlessly compiled." Roberts wrote...

Warming drives spread of toxic algae in US, researchers say

Jun 24, 2018

SALEM, Ore. — The words blasted to cellphones around Oregon's capital city were ominous: "Civil emergency . prepare for action." Within half an hour, a second official alert clarified the subject wasn't impending violence but toxins from an algae bloom, detected in Salem's water supply. Across the U.S., reservoirs that supply drinking water and lakes used for recreation are experiencing similar events with growing frequency. The trend represents another impact of global warming and raises looming questions about the effects on human health, researchers say. "When water bodies warm up earlier and stay warmer longer ... you increase the number...

A need to verify NKorea nuclear pledges

Jun 24, 2018

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Thursday identified the missile test engine site that it says North Korea has pledged to destroy, but the president's latest comments about resolving the nuclear standoff have raised new questions about what concessions Pyongyang has made. President Donald Trump had said on June 12 after his summit with Kim Jong Un that the North Korean leader was "already destroying" a missile site, in addition to committing to "complete denuclearization" of the Korean Peninsula. The testing site in question is in Ch'olsan County, North Pyongan province, and is sometimes is referred to as the Sohae...
