NetworkNewsBreaks – EVIO, Inc. (EVIO) Posts Fiscal Q2 2018 Financial Results

EVIO, Inc. (OTCQB: EVIO), a leading provider of cannabis testing and scientific research for the regulated cannabis industry, this morning announced financial and operating results for the quarter and six months ended March 31, 2018. Among other highlights, the company reported revenue for the second quarter of $732,311, a decrease of $56,415 or 12.1% from the second quarter last year. Revenue from the six months ending March 31, 2018, however, was $1,679,176, an increase of $177,997 or 11.9% from the same period in 2017. “EVIO’s second quarter focused greatly on broadening the company’s portfolio. With our recent private placement of $5.973 million, we expanded the company’s footprint by acquiring additional labs, namely in California, a market that we have identified as having unparalleled potential,” EVIO CEO William Waldrop stated in the news release. “We expect the state of California to enforce mandated compliance testing by July 1, 2018. With operational facilities in both Humboldt and Berkeley and the goal of further expansion into the state, we feel like EVIO is well-positioned to meet California’s demand for cannabis testing. Another significant milestone was our entrance into the Canadian market and launched EVIO Canada with the acquisition of Keystone Labs ahead of the country’s legalization of adult recreational use this summer.”

SEATTLE — Prior to his death on Monday, billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen invested large sums in technology ventures, research projects and philanthropy, some of it eclectic and highly speculative. What happens to those commitments now? Outside of bland assurances from his investment company, no one seems quite sure. Allen died in Seattle from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, according to his company Vulcan Inc. He was 65. He never married and had no children, and details of his estate aren't known. Forbes recently estimated Allen's net worth at $20.3 billion. He used much of the money he made from Microsoft...

London's black cabs soon to be seen on the streets of Paris

Oct 19, 2018

LONDON — London's black cabs will be seen on the streets of Paris next year as the company that makes them begins selling its wares in the City of Light. London Electric Vehicle Co., which makes plug-in electric taxis that look like traditional black cabs, has put about 600 vehicles on the streets of London and has already expanded to Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Oslo. The move into Paris comes as Mayor Anne Hidalgo aggressively works to improve air quality in the city. CEO Chris Gubbey says London Electric Vehicle wants to provide "new options" for drivers and passengers given...

Experts urge gulf refuge for endangered vaquita porpoise

Oct 19, 2018

MEXICO CITY — Experts called on Mexico's government Wednesday to use floating barriers to enclose a small area of the Gulf of California where a half dozen critically endangered vaquita porpoises were spotted in September. The sightings were an unexpected mix of good and bad news for the world's smallest porpoise, which has been driven to the brink of extinction by nets set illegally to catch totoaba, a fish whose swim bladder is considered a delicacy in China. One of the porpoises was identified by experts as Ana, a mother that was spotted with her second new calf in two...

Treasury employee charged in leak linked to Mueller's probe

Oct 19, 2018

WASHINGTON — A Treasury Department employee was accused Wednesday of leaking confidential banking reports of suspects charged in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, and an unidentified high-ranking colleague was cited in court papers as a co-conspirator but was not charged. Natalie Mayflower Sours Edwards, a senior official at the department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, also known as FinCEN, is accused of leaking several confidential suspicious activity reports to a journalist, whose name was not disclosed in court papers. But the documents list about a dozen stories published by BuzzFeed News over the past year and a half. A spokesman for...

Nobel Prize winner honored with dedicated campus bike rack

Oct 19, 2018

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri is honoring its Nobel Prize-winning scientist with an unusual accolade: a dedicated spot in a bicycle rack. George Smith learned this month that he'll share this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry with two other scientists. Other schools have recognized their Nobel laureates with a dedicated parking space. But the 77-year-old Smith is, by his own assessment, "not a good driver." Smith tells The Kansas City Star he's no "bike enthusiast" but that he lives less than a mile from the Columbia campus and bikes to work every day. His spot will be in...
