Toronto, ON -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/10/2020 -- FirstOntario Credit Union has selected the ASAPP OXP | Omnichannel Experience Platform as its in-branch, digital and mobile account and lending origination solution. The ASAPP platform will allow both prospective and existing Members to open retail and business accounts, apply for loans, lines-of-credit and mortgages, in-branch, online, and from a mobile device, anytime and anywhere.

"We are committed to delivering an exceptional experience, no matter which way people choose to do their banking with us", said Dave Schurman, COO, FirstOntario. "Through the ASAPP platform, people will have the ability to decide when and how to open accounts and lending products, and the flexibility to choose how to complete the transaction through a variety of service channels."

FirstOntario has already kick-started the implementation and configuration process and expects to be able to originate new lending products via ASAPP's omnichannel experience platform by Q4-2020. The solution will deliver an engaging experience and provide team efficiency and effectiveness gains, especially as FirstOntario looks to integrate the solution with its Temenos core banking software in the future.

"Choosing ASAPP was about more than just the technology platform", added Schurman. "ASAPP shares our vision for establishing a strategic partnership versus a client-supplier relationship, which is very important to us as we work together to implement, configure and deliver this solution."

ASAPP's streamlined and paperless approach to application management and its unique and highly configurable lending decision matrix will allow FirstOntario to be immediately responsive to prospective Members' lending needs. In turn, this will support FirstOntario's team in serving over 120,000 existing Members and expanding the credit union's community reach to attract new people looking for financial services and advice.

JR Pierman, ASAPP's President and CEO, is excited to announce the 5-year licensing agreement with FirstOntario as its third credit union Client-Partner within the Ontario market and 61st licensed credit union brand in Canada. "We are very proud that FirstOntario has selected the ASAPP OXP | omnichannel experience platform and we are already working hard to ensure the initial implementation and configuration results in a great solution launch this fall," said Pierman.

FirstOntario will be the first ASAPP Client-Partner to take advantage of a new Digital Agency Services offering for initial product launch support as part of the new licensing agreement.

Chinese report says illnesses may be from new coronavirus

Aug 14, 2020

BEIJING — A preliminary investigation into viral pneumonia illnesses sickening dozens of people in and around China has identified the possible cause as a new type of coronavirus, state media said Thursday. Chinese health authorities did not immediately confirm the report from state broadcaster CCTV. Coronaviruses are spread through coughing or sneezing or by touching an infected person. Some cause the common cold and others can lead to more severe respiratory diseases, such as SARS and MERS. Such viruses are common in people but more exotic versions from bats, camels and other animals have caused severe illness. The novel coronavirus...

Counting whales from space pitched as key to saving them

Aug 14, 2020

PORTLAND, Maine — An aquarium and an engineering firm in Massachusetts are partnering on a project to better protect whales by monitoring them from space. New England Aquarium of Boston and Draper of Cambridge say whale conservation needs new, higher-tech solutions to protect whales from extinction. So, the pair is working together using data from sources such as satellites, sonar and radar to keep a closer eye on how many whales are in the ocean. The effort has an easy to understand name for a project involving complex data and surveillance — the aquarium and firm are calling the project...

3-2-1-Cookoff! Astronauts to bake cookies with new test oven

Aug 14, 2020

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Forget reheated, freeze-dried space grub. Astronauts are about to get a new test oven for baking chocolate chip cookies from scratch. The next delivery to the International Space Station — scheduled for liftoff this weekend — includes the Zero G Oven. Chocolate chip cookie dough is already up there, waiting to pop into this small electric oven designed for zero gravity. Sample cookies baked just this week are also launching from Virginia on Northrop Grumman's Cygnus capsule, for the six station astronauts. The experiment explores the possibility of making freshly baked items for space travelers. With...

Threat to US elections not limited to Russia in 2020

Aug 14, 2020

WASHINGTON — Russia interfered in the 2016 election and may try to sway next year's vote as well. But it's not the only nation with an eye on U.S. politics. American officials sounding the alarm about foreign efforts to disrupt the 2020 election include multiple countries in that warning. Concerns abound not only about possible hacking of campaigns, but also about the spread of disinformation on social media and potential efforts to breach voting databases and even alter votes. The anxiety goes beyond the possibility that U.S. adversaries could directly affect election results: The mere hint of foreign meddling could...

China says US has 'weaponized' visas to target exchanges

Aug 14, 2020

BEIJING — China on Wednesday accused the U.S. of having "weaponized" the issuance of visas following the reported inability of a top Chinese space program official to obtain permission to travel to a key conference in Washington. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters that the head of the Chinese delegation to the International Astronautical Congress wasn't able to obtain a visa following an Oct. 12 interview, making it difficult for Chinese representatives to attend important events at the meeting. Reports said the vice chairman of the China National Space Administration, Wu Yanhua, had planned to attend the congress. Hua...
